Each unique Okama, Okama meaning path that walks across the neck in Ebera Bedea (the language of the Embera peoples)  is hand-beaded by Embera Chamí women from various regions of Colombia. We work directly with the artisan group Asociación de Artesanas Imaginando con las Manos, based in Jardín, Antioquia, Colombia. A collective of women from the Karmata Rúa Indigenous reservation. In addition to this collective, we collaborate with the Siagama family from Pueblo Rico, Risaralda, Colombia. Lina Siagama and her family are generational artisans who take immense pride in their heritage. They expertly blend traditional beading techniques with modern, playful designs, infusing each piece with both cultural significance and personal flair.

Okamas represent an important bridge to Embera history, spirituality, and connection to the natural world. Their beadwork carries these meanings through vibrant colors and intricate patterns that tell stories passed down through generations. Each color and design represents something in nature or different things like food, tools, etc... used within the community.
